Who Shined at the Oscars 2008?
Ah, the Oscars. A night of cheers, tears, and most importantly, couture. Some of my personal favorites this year were the ravishing red gowns of Heidi Klum, Katherine Heigl, and Anne Hathaway. Heidi Klum looked like a queen, with the regal red, draping train, and stiff collar. She seemed almost like the fashionable, beautiful younger sister of the Queen of Hearts. Katharine Heigl looked ravishing in a one shouldered Escada gown. Her deep red lipstick was very '50s glamourous, and she looked beautiful, even though she looked heart wrenchingly nervous while presenting. Anne Hathaways off the shoulder Marchesa gown, with a draped neckline of red flowers was stunning, but don't trust my judgement; I could see a garbage bag dress, but if it is Marchesa, I love it. Keri Russell struck a demure pose on the red carpet. She was a beguiling beauty in a nude flowing gown. I was ecstatic to see another Marchesa gown, this one a deep plum color, and worn by the beautiful Jessica Alba. I was a bit wary of the feathers at the top, it looked a little like her gown was going to take flight at any moment. What I loved about this was that Ms. Alba decided not to flaunt her baby bump, rather to hide it under layers of fabric. Penelope Cruz definetly shined in a Chanel Haute Couture gown. She was stunning in her unique black strapless gown. Her simple jewelry and sleek hair added to her elegant allure. Amy Adams, Hollywoods newest It girl, channels an Old-Hollywood bombshell and is absolutely enchanting in her Proenza Schouler rich emerald-green strapless gown. Renee Zellweger sparkled and shined in a glittering strapless gown. Her gown was a high cut stunner that showed a little leg. Renee's new short 'do made her seem incredibly aware of herself, and almost nervous, though she had no reason to be in this sparkler. Last but not least, my favorite of the night, Best Actress, Ms. Marion Cotillard! Marion Cotillard stood out in her mermiad gown by Jean-Paul Gaultier, straight off the runway. Unlike anything seen at the Oscars, this gown
was covered in scaleesque material, with a mermaids tail bottom.
